The organizers of the Charleston Beer Fest announced on Friday that the 2021 edition of the event would be canceled because of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the Lowcountry.

The festival was to take place on October 9th in North Charleston’s Riverfront Park and benefit Palmetto Community Care, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance the quality of life for persons living with HIV/AIDS and provide HIV prevention resources. More than 30 regional breweries were lined up to pour beers for the event.

“As a nonprofit organization focused on public health in our community, we cannot in good conscience hold this festival amidst the historic surge in Covid cases that are once again pushing the limits of our healthcare system,” Bradley Childs, the Executive Director of Palmetto Community Care, said in a statement.

The 2020 outing was canceled due to Covid as well, but the 2019 festival drew more than 4,000 thirsty attendees. Any tickets already purchased for the 2021 festival will be refunded, and the organizers will try again next year on October 22, 2022, again at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.
